About Bridget
My name is Bridget Degnen, and I am your Cook County Commissioner in District 12. I grew up in Edgebrook, a neighborhood on Chicago’s northwest side. I now live in North Center, on Chicago’s north side, with my husband and son.
Before becoming a Commissioner, I received my undergraduate degree in environmental engineering. I then served in the United States Peace Corps, in Mali, West Africa. After my return, I worked as an environmental engineer directing field crews throughout North America. These experiences inspired me to continue my education by attending law school, after which I practiced law in both the private and public sectors. From 2013, until I decided to run for County Commissioner, I served as the Deputy General Counsel of the Illinois Department of Public Health, then served as the Deputy Director of Medical Cannabis regulating dispensaries licensed under Illinois’ Medical Cannabis Program.
I chose to serve as Cook County Commissioner because I’m dedicated to solving the problems of how to keep our neighborhoods safe, raise revenue without raising your taxes, and combat climate change. One of my primary goals as your Cook County Commissioner is to increase confidence in the electorate, and provide information on the services Cook County offers. This website provides information on some of the services Cook County offers, and how to reach out to our office for more information. Please sign up to receive announcements about events in our District.
